Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical value of serum BNP and LCN-2 in evaluating the disease severity and prognosis of patients with chronic heart failure. Methods A total of 90 patients with heart failure who were treated in our hospital from January 2019 to June 2023 were enrolled as observation group, and 90 individuals who underwent cardiac examination in our hospital during the same period of time and had normal results were enrolled as control group. The two groups were compared in terms of the serum levels of BNP and LCN-2, and their clinical value in evaluating the disease severity and prognosis of patients with chronic heart failure was analyzed. Results Compared with the control group, the observation group had significantly higher levels of LCN-2 (89.678±17.48 ng/mL vs 60.04±15.31 ng/mL, t=9.782, P<0.05) and BNP (2568.11±478.28 pg/mL vs 196.41±47.49 pg/mL, t=24.543, P<0.05). In the observation group, the levels of BNP and LCN-2 increased with the increase in cardiac functional grade (F=19.261 and 602.689, P<0.05). In the observation group, there were 14 patients with major adverse cardiovascular events and 76 without such events, and the patients with major adverse cardiovascular events had significantly higher levels of BNP and LCN-2 than those without such events (t=2.218 and 2.221, P<0.05). Conclusion Changes in the levels of BNP and LCN-2 have a reliable clinical value in evaluating the disease severity and prognosis of patients with chronic heart failure and thus holds promise for clinical application.
