Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical effect of ear acupoint bean pressing combined with valsartan in the treatment of grade 1 hypertension patients with upper hyperactivity of liver Yang. Methods A total of 90 patients were randomly divided into control group and observation groups 1 and 2, with 30 patients in each group. The patients in the control group were given valsartan 80 mg once a day, those in the observation group 1 were given valsartan 80 mg once a day plus ear acupoint bean pressing, and those in the observation group 2 were given valsartan 80 mg once a day plus ear acupoint bean pressing at sham acupoints; the course of treatment was 6 weeks for all groups. The score of Essential Hypertension with Syndrome of Upper Hyperactivity of Liver Yang Scale was determined and office blood pressure was measured for all patients before and after treatment. Results The one-way analysis of variance showed that the observation group 1 had significantly lower systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and score of Essential Hypertension with Syndrome of Upper Hyperactivity of Liver Yang Scale than the observation group 2 and the control group after treatment (P<0.05). Conclusion For patients with grade 1 hypertension, ear acupoint bean pressing combined with valsartan can significantly improve office blood pressure and clinical symptoms and has clear advantages over valsartan alone or valsartan combined with ear acupoint bean pressing at sham acupoints.
